How We Work

100 People Who Care Tewksbury is a members-only giving circle. Together, the group decides by majority vote where to give individual contributions to achieve MAJOR impact for a local nonprofit.

The 100 People Who Care Tewksbury, Massachusetts chapter and its events are run by a volunteer board with the assistance of community sponsors.

What does this look like?

Quarterly meetings occur in March, June, September and December. The nomination and voting process is reserved for members. Each meeting ends with a minimum of $10,000 given to the nonprofit organization with the most votes.

  • Four times per year our members show up ready to give for BIG local impact.

  • Each member has the opportunity to nominate a charity. There are eligibility requirements (see below) and newly nominated nonprofits must be approved at least two weeks prior to the next pickerwheel spin.

  • Each member agrees to contribute $100 quarterly -- no exceptions.

  • At least two weeks before each meeting, three approved nonprofits and two alternates will be randomly selected by pickerwheel. If the executive director or designee of any nonprofit cannot be in attendance, the alternates will be invited in the order selected.

  • The executive director or designee from the nonprofit will be asked to make an informal presentation of up to five minutes -- no PowerPoints, please, though they may bring collateral materials to share.

  • Members will have the opportunity to ask questions after each presentation for roughly five minutes.

  • After the presentations and Q&A, an anonymous ballot is held, and the charity with the most votes is the recipient. Two-way ties will be decided by one more round of votes. If a tie persists, the board will vote.

  • Members may vote by proxy by sending a blank check with another member or a designee.

  • Immediately following the meeting, members who were unable to attend must remit their $100 to the chosen nonprofit. Failure to do so without extenuating circumstances as approved by the board will result in the member not being allowed to nominate or vote. A second failure will result in removal from the group. Remember, this is about a BIG IMPACT for a deserving nonprofit.

  • The selected charity will be invited back to the next meeting to share with members the BIG impact the collective donation has made.

Want to see us in action first?

Feel free to attend any meeting as a guest! If, while you're at the meeting, you would like to donate to one or more of our nonprofits, you are welcome to do so, and we appreciate it. However, you must be a member to vote for the night's selected charity.
